Not at all. You really dont know the difference? I find it hard to believe that a person with your education and intellect does not know the difference. Be that as it may, I will explain to you the difference.

When a police officer detains a person, it is for a short duration to see if there is or may be a reason to apprehend them. Then that person is released if no further information is uncovered that would lead to arrest. Think of being pulled over for a driving infraction. That is be detained.

When a person is being arrested, they are placed in a jail and it takes a judge for them to be released.

Completely different scenario.

He was searched, brought to the federal courthouse, placed in a holding cell, and had his Miranda rights read to him. All he had to do was decline to waive his rights and answer questions without a lawyer present and he was released with no record of his arrest.

Is that really big deal to you?

Why allow that excuse for one and not the other?

Anwar al Awlaki was targeted for assassination by President Obama. Obama authorized his assassination by name. He was not collateral damage as you say.

I have it on good authority that some don’t care about due process when dealing with terrorists.
