No it won’t.

It’s a chicken and egg problem.

People won’t buy EVs until there are more charging stations.

There won’t be more charging stations until people buy more EVs.

Add to that the charging infrastructure is beyond the scale of most companies to build out…it’s way more expensive than building gas stations.

It’s equivalent to roads because without roads ICE cars never would have taken off. Same for EVs and charging.

Its not a chicken and egg problem. As electric cars become more plentiful, the demand for charging stations will go up. I’m predicting that initially electric cars will remain a secondary mode of transportation for those short trips. Primary charging will take place at home. For those longer trips, gasoline will still be wide spread. Over time, we will begin seeing more charging stations that will require payment to recharge. Key will be the ability to recharge in 5 or 10 minutes; just enough time to browse and shop an attached convenience store. We might even see charging outlets in some gas stations.

The government will have no role, other than to collect their share of whatever taxes are levied.
