In part, yes. Just wait and see, when Congress is discussing the Biden Gun Control Act, the situation in Portland (and every other big city that has essentially stopped enforcing laws) will be held up as an example as to why it is needed.

What they should be discussing is using the lawlessness of criminals to strengthen gun laws for the law abiding.

Expand your horizons. Portland was used as an example in the OP, not as the only example. Lawlessness and violent crime is on the rise in numerous cities who have declared war on their own police forces. And ten will get you twenty that the Democrats under the urging of Biden will be forwarding new more stringent gun control legislation and will be pointing at the violence their ilk created in those cities to justify their action.

I don’t see any issue here. Those residents voted for Progressive Democrats that aren’t shy about their desires to defund law enforcement, disarm the public, and abolish prisons, so they should they welcome the increased murder rate and violence as a sign that social justice is working.
