What’s up with lib pols (or just libs in general) defending criminals in such a way? I don’t get it.

I think the idea is, which is worse, someone driving by and shooting you or walking up to you and shooting you? The charge should be the same but evidently, in their state, it wasn’t. A drive by was charged with a more serious crime and I’d ask the same…why? I’d throw the max at both…equally but…that’s how I roll. I don’t believe in just shooting people.

The aggravating factor for drive-by shootings has only been used once since it was instituted in 1995, according to Simmons.

Well they went the wrong direction then.

The walk up shooting penalties should be raised to the level of the drive by shooting penalties instead of drive by shooting penalties lessened.

This is the bigger issue. The bold part. Introducing the law is not a bad thing. Introducing a law to overturn something that’s been used once in 25 years is beyond stupid.

If you premeditate sure but even there age should be a factor. If you are a gang banger and a teenager i don’t know.

We do a lot of things to protect our young. May be we should do more.

I think the difference might be the randomness of the victims in a drive by (besides the target individuals) compared of walking up and shooting them.

I don’t remember voting for crime laws or penalties.
And I have been voting since 84

Aside from initiatives, you are correct. However, you do vote for the politicians who enact those laws.

I assumed that we all understood how a Republic works, and that I wouldn’t need to explain this fact in my post.

But none of us, including you, knew they would enact those laws when we voted for them (if indeed we did vote for the ones who did.) Voting is a crap shoot when it comes to enacting new legislation. Or better put, voting is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.

Depends on how far away the closest store is from where you live. A couple of blocks walk just turned into all day bus rides for some folks. But that probably doesn’t impact your neighborhood store.

Um, no? The city isn’t that big, you can take public transit across the city in about 2-3 hours. I’d estimate from any point in the city there is a Walgreens within a 1 hour bus ride, most likely shorter. It does suck, but its far from “vacating the city”.
