Yeah, thatās not easy to come back from. There will be some bad blood there. At least for a while. Theyāre not a public union. They can support, or not support anyone they want.

Just curious, who were these 1,633 eligible voters?
Iām just wondering. Itās probably not the 8000 employees. Hey, If Iām representing people, and you pay me enough, Iāll vote any way you like.

Different facility. The 8,000 employees are at JFK8 - they already voted to unionize. This was for LDJ5, a smaller facility.
Ok. I never understood the motivation for a rank and file employee to vote against a union.

Me neither. Nevertheless, apparently it happens.

We donāt have ranks and files.
You ever work a non-union job. As an adult?
That is exactly what I would do. If you donāt like the working conditions, donāt apply for the freaken job! Any business that submits to blackmail deserves to go under.

The unions have been declining as a % of the work force since the mid 40ās. I love how people want to blame Reagan. The unions have killed the unions. As they drive labor costs too high, jobs get moved overseas. It isnāt rocket surgery.

Quite simple. We like our jobs. Unions drive the labor costs so high that it drives corporations to other states or countries. Unions typically drive productivity down and costs up. Doesnāt take a genius to figure out there that leads long term. The unions have a great gig. They fight to increase wages and reduce work, then blame the Corporrtion for being evil for wanting to make a profit. Thatās why I would never join a union or tolerate one as an employer.

I grew up in a union house, dad was in the Steelworkers union, he bid on a job and won the bid to convert blueprints to what they called ādope sheetsā, basically shrinking it down to a smaller sheet for the guys on the floor. He held the position for over a year until someone found out he didnāt graduate HS and filed a grievance and got bumped. The union knew he didnāt graduate when they awarded him the bid. Fast forward 20ish years, plant closed down in the middle of 2nd shift, no notice, guys lost everything, pension, etc. My dad had retired so his was safe but others still working werenāt so lucky. I worked there a few years and after the mill operator damn near caused me to get my head crushed because he was high and nothing was done I left. A few years later i worked a job that was teamsters, no issue there. Fast forward to about 7ish years ago i worked at a major auto manufacturers engine plant in IT, after 3 months I found a new job, if you didnāt drive THAT brand of car you had to park in the farther lots and if someone dared to park in ābrandā spots their cars were messed with. Also, I HAD to call a union electrician to pull a damn plug on a device that i had to work on because āthat was an electricians jobā or a grievance would be filed. That is ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā ā if I had a device down I couldnāt do my job because someone got all butthurt if I pulled a damn plug.
All a union is nowdays is a slush fund to bankroll the Democrat party, has ZERO to do with giving a damn about workers. In the past, unions were needed, there is no doubt due to abuses but today, all they are is a racket. Problem is some people are brainwashed into thinking a union is a good thing, being on both sides of the equation, if offered a job in a union shop and offered one in a non-union shop, there is no debate, I will go non-union every time. Just look at how hard it is to get rid of a bad cop, union backs the bad cop almost every time, same for teachers. If someone wants to belong to a union, more power to them, not for me.

Its the same with many poor, lower, and lower midlle class people that were convinced to vote against their own interestsā¦Tax cuts for the wealthy and big business etcā¦Like another poster said, progannda works.

Thatās not the same thing. Voting for or against tax cuts for the wealthy doesnāt affect them directly. Maybe indirectly. Iāve been in one union or another since the 80s, and I can tell you the tax rate of the wealthy did not affect my life one bit. A governor of your state has much more impact.
But if youāre a rank and file worker, and youāre given the choice of union or non union, just ask yourself who your employer would prefer. Vote the opposite. This is simple grade school logic. If youāre too stupid or ignorant to realize this, then you get what you deserve.

Iāll be honest, No. But I knew plenty of people that did. It was one of the reasons I never wanted to work a non union job. My wife went to non union when she became management. It was a better job Iāll admit. But thatās because it was Verizon. Not every job is like that. A rank and file employee with little skillset has a different issue.
Union rates were around 30% from the 1940ās, until about 1983ā¦Reagan fired the air traffic controllers, sending a strong message about union support. The drastic decline started then.
Today, that 30% is around 6%.
