Did you know you were voting for this law when you voted democrat?

You don’t think there could be a rare case where one needs to use a vehicle despite having a few drinks ?

Suppose you’re in a rural area by yourself out of cellphone range and have a medical emergency and need to get to a hospital pronto. This thing could be a difference between life and death.

I don’t. My understand (and by reading posts by others in this thread) is that this system is way more sophisticated and seemless than having to blow into a tube i.e. it detects your state when you get into a car and start it.

It’s been a while.

Also, the drinking age was 18.

First off, the odds of being out of cellphone range are so small it’s almost impossible.

Secondly, if you’re impaired, attempting to drive to the hospital can and will do more damage than good. And if it’s you that is that banged up, I highly doubt you could drive yourself to the hospital even if you are sober.

Dial 911, and let an ambulance take them there (or life flight depending on the circumstances).

Or better yet, you could have someone else breath into the alco lock and bypass it.

Not good IMHO.

Absolutely not true. I was just in a cabin in rural WA in July w/ no service or WiFi for an entire weekend. In the mountains here, reception is rarely guaranteed.

And there absolutely could be cases where one needs immediate medical attention and could still drive themselves. Or their small child could need immediate medical attention. Probably people shouldn’t get drunk with their children around but we don’t always make the best decisions and not being able to get to a hospital may cause their child irreparable harm.

You want your car in charge of telling you when you can drive? Based on some system from the lowest bidder?

Rural WA…in the middle of a national forrest, with no cell service.

That’s exactly the one in one million chance I’m talking about when I say it’s almost impossible. You hit the perfect storm pal. Almost every place in the US has some cell service.

Quit grasping at straws. How many times in the last decade where you anywhere with no cell service?

I was just asking how you think it harms honest people. i.e. can you show tangible harm here ?

Try getting a breathalyzer after using mouthwash, and see what you get for a reading.

I’d say close to a few dozen times, maybe 100+. I do a lot of hiking and snowboarding here. Not too worried about myself with medical emergencies, however.

And yes, I acknowledge that this would be rare. But in a rare case, a life could be saved. Hence, override is needed.

Because it’s just wasting their time. It’s a waste of their money too. And now answer my question.

If the system is seamless and detects one’s state behind the wheel when they start the car, it doesn’t take any extra time.

Every time I go to my best friend’s house.

There’s a five mile stretch of country side where service is so poor that even a phone call is nearly impossible.

At least they got due process.

“If…” See you don’t know anything about the system except the dems want it. And I think they want it because they have stock in the companies that make them and will make lots of money.
Meanwhile cars are more expensive… Gosh, how does that help the 99%…

That’s true and I would not support this if everyone needs to blow into a tube like you’re suggesting. Then I would agree with you, this harms honest people.

You need to travel more.

Yes, but you didn’t get the chance to decide if you supported it or not? They just passed it without telling anyone during the election.
