Active-duty US Marine sentenced for participation in January 6 Capitol attack

Certainly an interesting sentence and a good “shaming” sentence.

An hour of community service for every United States Marine killed or wounded during the Civil War, for a total of 279 hours. He avoided prison time, but received four years of probation.

The US district judge Ana Reyes said she could not fathom why Dodge Hellonen violated his oath to protect the constitution “against all enemies, foreign and domestic” – and risked his career – by joining the 6 January 2021 riot that disrupted Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election.

“I really urge you to think about why it happened so you can address it and ensure it never happens again,” Reyes said.

I, _____ _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the Orders of the Officers appointed over me according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

Well, he has 279 hours to rethink his life choices and perhaps reflect on Marines of the past who honored their oaths.

He lost his primary MoS after January 6th and has been doing essentially a busy work job ever since. Most likely, he will end up being administratively separated from the Marines. If he is lucky, he may be able to serve out his current enlistment with an honorable discharge. But obviously his military career is over.

We used to shame bad behavior in the Army too. A bunch of ■■■■■■■ cried until that was no longer allowed. Now they just get demoted and lose half their pay for several months while their families go hungry or without diapers in the aftermath.

Hellonen, Coomer and Abate pleaded guilty earlier this year to parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building, a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of six months behind bars.

Sounds like nothing. Maybe scared some lawmakers?

Maybe that’s why he only got community service.

Slap on the wrist.

Quite the hyperbole to prop up the cheater sitting in Trump’s office.

“Stormed the nations capitol”. Does that picture of him moseying into the building look like “storming” to them? Like everything else related to January 6: exaggerated beyond credibility.

All the glib aside. Here’s hoping Der Trumpmeister get re-elected and pardons every last J6 accused and convicted. And in this individual’s case he gets his rank and back pay restored.
That’ll get the little Proggies skivvies all knotted and twisted up!
