If that’s the case I would double…triple check the gun and ammo first before making that shoot.

There is no reason to have live rounds on a movie set. That was the case in this tragedy.
Whoever did that needs to go to prison.
Not if that’s standard for the industry.

Maybe you would (do you always triple check a gun before pulling the trigger?) but on a movie set, that is the job of the armorer, not the actors. “Cold gun!” is the announcement from the armorer to everyone on the set that the gun is unloaded and, therefore, simply a benign prop.

From what I’ve read. Other sets will have the gun checked in front of the actor who will be holding it, and the actors who it will be pointed at. That way everyone involved knows it’s safe.
This is some real negligence from the armorer to the AD to Baldwin.

Oh and apparently, the AD who handed Baldwin the gun, and claimed it was “cold” was fired from another movie he had worked on, due to the same thing. Negligent discharge of a gun.

From what I read in the paper today, this occurred during rehearsal. The gun was declared “cold” by the armorer, which in movie set vernacular, means unloaded. Baldwin was given the cold gun and was practicing cross drawing and firing, as the scene required. He completed that action once with no incident. On the second try, the gun discharged. It’s looking more like a case of deliberate sabotage …

If someone either deliberately or inadvertently put a live round in the gun and then told the set that the gun was unloaded (“cold”) they damn sure did not follow industry standards.

Maybe it was an elaborate murder plot.

Well that was a failure for sure. I was responding to a post that said (in part) that live rounds should not be allowed on set, and that was the piece I was responding to.
Apparently, they allow live rounds on set because they look more realistic than blanks.

And maybe the Insurance Company(ies) will call it an “Act of God”

If I was playing a part yes I would check it for myself. I wouldn’t even trust armory. But again that’s just me.

Yeah … You would think at least one of those people would be smart enough to pull bullets, dump the powder, cook off the primers, and reinsert the bullets. If no live fire is planned, there is no reason whatsoever to have live ammo anywhere near the set.
I watch a lot of European dramas on Netflix. I have noticed in several of them that when showing ammunition, either loose or in the cylinder of a pistol, that the primers are dimpled. That works too, but cooking them off isn’t that hard.

When an outspoken opponent of guns shoots someone, it’s gonna get talked about.

was asking a serious question. Wasn’t aware of him being “outspoken” about it.
Yes. Recent reports indicate that the gun was used in target practice.
Then there are the qualifications of the armorer. She is 24-year-old former model who has lots of tattoos and made odd videos with R-rated lyrics. Are those sufficient?
