Honestly I think Obama had the right idea. 8500 deployed as advisors for long term stability.
Secular Arabism (all the rage back then) promised a whole new society for the Arab and Muslim world as a whole.
Unfortunately, it failed. The secular Pan-Arabists couldn’t defeat Israel and restore Arab honor. Thus the old school Islamists took back over.
And yes I know Persians are not Arabs. They had a similar movement at the time called the “White Revolution” led by the Shah that was combining secular western values mixed with moderate Islamic values.

These islamo fanatics are living in Middle Age mentality including their proclivity for perversions of rape, child brides and the buggering of young boys. This is the one world caliphate they aspire to. These are freakazoids that glorify martyrdom for their so called “religion”. This makes them even more dangerous than those who fight for political ideology.
The weird part is that when the last actual caliphate (the Ottoman Caliphate) was a thing the Muslim world was generally more civilized than it is now.
I mean it still had some problems, but it was arguably better than it is today.

Similar theme in The book of Isaiah and a clear and repeated statement in Jeremiah.
“God says if the people (as a people or country) do A, B & C (strict adherence to Old Testament laws) he will free those people from the earthly oppression they are facing from earthly oppressors.”

Salafist Islam, (born primarily in 1800s British India) says much the same. In effect it says “Obey the Quran to the letter and God will free you from the colonialist oppressors.”
And that mindset (regardless of whether a Muslim formally calls himself a Salalfist) had become a major, perhaps THE MAJOR force in Islam ever since. What exactly that is supposed to men in the post colonial world is hmmm . . . subject to interpretation. But ever since the salafist mindset has been awakened its been tough to put it back in the bottle.

The one time communism was objectively better than the alternative. It stayed like that until all the Jihadis took over after beating the Soviets in the 80s.
