A really. simple question about the coronavirus nightmare

False dichotomy. Public health and economic health are not two separate issues…they are one in the same. Poverty, homelessness, hunger and depression are killers too. We know who the very small percentage of people who are touched by the virus and have died are for the most part. Of course we take care of those people…but the overwhelming majority of us are going to come thru it just fine. Maybe a little herd immunity wouldn’t hurt or so we are told.

How many threads now on the same subject?

Who cares. I said at the start if this gets merged so be it.

How come no smart guy in the room lefties have offered anything but snark in answer to a legit set of questions…how much damage are we prepared to do to our economy because of the virus

Read the threads there has been a ton of sensible suggestions to get the economy back up and running.

Without reading any further in the thread I’ll just say, "Let the Virtue Signaling Begin.

You are correct but there’s nothing more politically incorrect to do these days than speak the truth.

We’re rapidly becoming a country of gutless wonders who think they can live for ever, have everything and get it all without risking a thing.

We’d have never become the nation we are today if our ancestors weren’t willing to literally put their lives on the line just so their kids could have a better future than their parents.

Do you think there are enough jobs at menial labor like that to solve anything? Is a minimum wage job like that going to get a family of four with 3,000.00-5000.00 in mortgages, car payments, groceries, utilities etc from ending up homeless?

Hint, take a look at how desperate the housing situation is in places like California right now and multiply by 15,000,000 or more.

I’m curious what steps, if any, you plan to take when the economy opens up in the next few weeks.
6ft separation?
Mindful of touching things/washing hands often?
Eating in restaurants?
Attending sports events?
Flying commercial?

Not if we stay shutdown for very long. We’ll end up in a depression if we do which will be far more damaging than this virus ever could be.

The demand already exists. If people have money and freedom they’ll make use of both.

Trump never suggested doing any such thing. He asked a question.

“I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute,” he said. “Is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs, and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that.”

It would actually be possible using a scope to get UV light into the lungs so it might be worth exploring particularly in patients that are headed for a likely fatal outcome so it might be worthy of some research.

its not temporary if it closes a business. for that owner and those employees its permanent.

Sadly, they really just don’t care. More suffering for Americans might well lead to a dem sweep in November and they’ve long proven they’re fine with burning the whole country down if necessary to win.

they don’t want things shut down “because of the virus”. The left doesn’t give a ■■■■ about the virus, who dies from it, or who is ruined by it. They care about one thing only… TRUMP!!!

See how long that lasts when they start losing their homes, cars, etc due to the extended lock down.

Right now there’s very little pain because of the emergency money but we can’t simply keep pumping out dollars to give away for long without creating an even bigger problem so it’s going to stop sooner rather than later.

You have no idea if the demand YoY is going to be there for most businesses, regardless of size or industry. There is no historical equivalent to generate a demand stream to put into forecasting models that the majority of supply chains use. You also can’t rely on previous months of demand, because, well, there hasn’t been any.

The demand for goods isn’t going to change for goods we want. If they are available and we have the money and freedom to get out and shop we will buy them.

If anything we’ll see an explosion in markets for things people think will protect them from the virus driving even more spending.
