Did you have health insurance? What if you lost the insurance and you wife had cancer and had to undergo, tests, surgery, and medication costing thousands per dose?

There are many “what ifs” throughout your life and that’s why I stepped forward in baby steps. After the completion of each one, I’d do a spherical examination of my world to insure my wife and children would be ok if everything went wrong. That’s how this conservative rolls and all those that have crossed my path in this life, will testify that what I just said is true.

Why else would you sell, if not for profit?

There are some things that have natural monopolies, that are also necessary, water, electricity, internet.
For those the profit motive is not needed.

Then there is government spending…that creates a lot of commerce…yes, providers of many of those products are for profit companies…that can be used for needed goods and services, and also for stimulating the economy, when needed. But the government does not spend to make a profit, off of wat they invest in.

How long are you making minimum wage…40 years? That doesn’t happen unless there’s more to the story but I promise you, there aren’t many people out there as you just described, that work for forty years and not improve their life because they improve in what ever it is they’re doing and become more valuable to the employer.

Things are tight but the other spouse made the most money and had the insurance. The spouse with MS deteriorates until they are bedridden and need almost constant care. Very expensive. Now the second spouse loses their job.

What sort of health care system will keep this family from being crushed by medical bills and wiping out their savings?

While I think universal coverage will never happen, not here in the US, I think that almost everyone is in agreement that Universal Catastrophic coverage should be a thing.

Wouldn’t cost much if we cap it at 10k per year. First 10k is your responsibility and then it kicks in.

Then, use insurance for that first 10k or allow tax free HSAs to cover it.

Solves a lot of problems.

Less than half of Min. wage workers are younger than 24.

But that doesn’t matter. People get sick at all ages. Have serval cancer surviving friends who were sick in their 20s.

If you’re making minimum wage and you’re older than 24…as I said…it didn’t just happen…there’s a reason and most likely…it’s one’s choices along the way. It didn’t just happen. If you do not build your house to with stand the huffs and puffs of the big, bad wolf of life…he’ll blow your house down. The problem is that most build their houses of straw. Fix that and we won’t be having this discussion about who pays for their healthcare.
