A Psychological Basis For Trump's Support

I found the first one very interesting and very true. How often do we see Trump supporters defending removal of people from the press?

Or calling for an end to any investigation?

Or firing anyone involved in the investigation?

Authoritarian Personality Syndrome

Authoritarianism refers to the advocacy or enforcement of strict obedience to authority at the expense of personal freedom, and is commonly associated with a lack of concern for the opinions or needs of others. Authoritarian personality syndrome—a well-studied and globally-prevalent condition—is a state of mind that is characterized by belief in total and complete obedience to one’s authority. Those with the syndrome often display aggression toward outgroup members, submissiveness to authority, resistance to new experiences, and a rigid hierarchical view of society. The syndrome is often triggered by fear, making it easy for leaders who exaggerate threat or fear monger to gain their allegiance

They don’t seek a leader that can feel their pain. Rather they seek a leader that can inflict pain onto others.

Sad.

Why didn’t it trigger for them under Obama?

Who “them”?

Anyone who suffers from it, I guess.

I wonder if people who have the syndrome rejected Obama because he wasn’t authoritarian enough to qualify as a true leader in their eyes, but Trump checks all of the boxes for them.

Good point.

Obama wasn’t really an authoritarian and never inflicted the kind and degree of pain that Trump is. Nor did Obama target the people Trump lovers want targeted.

If you read the link racism is another trait often displayed.

Another thing discussed and studied earlier is the mind of a person who self identify as Conservative is fearful often seeing the worse. Obama’s who campaign slogan was hope and change. Something they fear is change.

Count me in.

At one time or another libs called for ending some investigation, getting rid of some investigator, restricting free speech, called for some news organization to be banished from the “legitimate” press, fear mongering about everything from the climate to AHHHHHHHHHHH…THE RUSSIANS, THE OCEAN LEVEL, THE CARBON, AHHHHHHH
, yada yada yada.

Yep… “interesting”… except you failed to look in the mirror when you read it. Now THAT is interesting.

Yep… if it keeps a short leash on libs… count me in. Call me a poster child for your “authoritarian personality syndrome” (APS)…
PLEASE.

I’ve even been to APS conferences … (yeah… Antennas and Propagation Society… but what’s the difference! )

Nice bit of Bulverism, there.

Typical doctorate level college spewbabble.

I have found it very interesting that when a conservative challenges a spewlib on here 9 times out of 10 upfront the conservative is accused of being a meanie. A cheap debate 101 parlor trick. Waaay overused on here.

For example:

Libdrone: You are obviously a racist sexist bigot misogomist!

Conservative replies: Moron!

Libdrone reply: So. You revert to name calling. Totally expected.

So overused you had to imagine an example!

I’m reminded of my high school English teacher, “Show, don’t tell.”

You haven’t seen this…ever on here? Tell you what Ms. Borgia. I’m not going to fetch 18 examples of when this has been used on me. But I’d invite you to foller along when you see my excellent comments. Won’t take you long to see real life examples.

Blindly supporting any politician is stupid.

Regarding your confusion. When you boil it down “the press” is just a phrase. There is no ordination or oath in becoming a member of “the press.” Even so extra rights are conferred…and they oughtn’t to be.

A “press” person gets hired and goes to work. Same as any other job. I myself have been a member of “the press” a couple of times. Just a job.

However, traditionally we tend to bestow some amount of extra holiness to members of “the press.” The more they are paid or the loftier the company they work for…the more they are honored.

But from one who is given extra…extra is expected. At the simplest, we expect members of the press to be even handed.

If you have ever watched the WH press corpse in action you have seen the very worst and most childish of “the press.” Members of :the press" have no inherent right to be rude etc. without consequence. After all, it’s a job…not a knighthood.

Many conservatives thought the WH was on the right track when they laid down rules for the press…and were sorely disappointed when they backed off.

Goes back to the “even handed press” thing. A press that fawns to the point of drooling over one regime while acting like ravening hyenas around another is anything but even handed. Thus, they get no sympathy.

A “press” with an agenda is nothing more than a propaganda machine and that’s definitely unAmerican. And a “press person” who is rude and disruptive OUGHT TO BE REMOVED. There are plenty more to take his place.

The Trump regime has shown FAR more restraint than many would like.

It is. But I have not seen this level of support for a person even as they are being investigated and are doing things like banning members of the press.

Heck I can’t recall Democrats trying to impeach anyone investigating Bill Clinton.

All I can say is watch Hannity. He lays out the case 5 nights a week. Over and over and over. Evidently you have no idea of the frustration on the right. Old time dems would have been the first to go bonkers over a guy like Rosenstein. Bekez they would have realized that what goes around most often comes around.

Donald’s not crazy!
(institutionalized)
Libs are all crazy!
(institutionalized)
They’re driving me crazy!

They stuck me that orange loon, and
Said we’d all be MAGA soon
If I’d just kneel and kiss his ass
He’d save me from the Democratic sass

Trump couldn’t have won if democrats who voted twice for Obama didn’t switch to vote for Trump. I doubt they voted for the first African American president twice then decided their going to go full racist on the first female white president.

Our gracious host also spent quite a few words excoriating John Edwards for cheating on his wife in 2008. Claimed that if a man will lie to his wife he will lie to the country. I wonder what changed since then?
