Hold on for one second here. A mask should do? Then why bother with the vaccine if a mask is just as good? What’s the reason they should be fired again? Because they’re putting other people at risk, right? So if that’s the case, why should any excuse allow you to continue working there? Sounds contradictory to me. But then again, I’m thinking as a long time member of unions. Non union work places aren’t required to make sense.

That’s what my mother in North Texas was told. They pull two for every dosage to make sure the follow-ups can be administered correctly.

If someone cannot receive the vaccine due to

allergy to one or more components, or

immune suppression, as chemo for cancer does as well as treatment for autoimmune disorders like multiple sclerosis.

IIRC the state of Rhode Island requires choice of either a flu shot or wearing of a mask. A nurse, when this law was newer, got fired due to refusal to do either.

And health care workers like nurses, physicians, physical therapists etc. having a lot of close contact with patients should be required to either get a vaccine or wear a mask. They aren’t workers with only brief in person contact, but, especially in institutional settings, are spending more time with patients, including those more likely to experience poor outcome from flu & COVID 19.

I understand the fear, I am not for making people do things they don’t want but we don’t even know what being infected with the virus has on child birth or pregnancy it’s all in the grey.

They are having to throw away a lot of the vaccines because of either refusal or having a difficult time locating them.

My father-in-law who receive the shot said they called and made an appointment for the whole office which is a better way and showed up and gave it to the people who wanted it and didnt the others.

From my understanding of the vaccines out now they come in lots of either 500 or 1000 and the way they have to be stored they are having to throw away a lot of vaccines.

The jnj vaccine will be coming out in February and it would solve the problem it just needs to be refrigerated, unfortunately as of now it’s not out and we don’t know efficacy rate of it yet.

There is absolutely no excuse for that, it’s an egregious level of malfeasance when that happens.

Even once thawed it keeps for 10 days under refrigeration.

If they can’t get it all out they should be getting it to other locations that can.

If this is the case, they need to move on and offer it to the general public as soon as possible. As a survivor of the Rona, nearly everyone who gets is will regret not getting the vaccine. Two days of hell, followed by ten days of suck and several weeks or even months of Rona hangover. Get the shot. You don’t want this ■■■■

They worry about the “side effects” of the vaccine. Good God, try dealing with the side effects of the Rona. Now we’re talking serious side effects. I don’t recommend it to anybody this side of Nancy Pelosi.

Doesn’t make sense as far as arguments go, if anyone is eligible for a shot they can get it now. If someone is going to be eligible later, like vulnerable people, they will make vaccines in the interim to cover them. But we won’t progress to them until we reach a certain critical mass in the current groups. If anything, not getting your shot is delaying their eventual shot.

Agreed. I got my second shot today and I know the next few days may be a little grim but I got it all the same. I couldn’t bear the thought of getting one of my patients sick.

Here’s hoping that my reaction will be a mild one, though. Fingers crossed and tylenol at hand. Oh, and for you guys getting the second Pfizer dose, do NOT take an NSAID (Motrin, etc.) for fever, chills or aches. Take Tylenol, it doesn’t diminish the antibody creation.

Keep in mind, this is NYC, but I do believe termination of employment due to a medical condition that can be reasonably accommodated is illegal federally.

In the case of Rhode Island health care workers who refused or could not due to allergy to a component or immune suppression accept the flu vaccine, wearing a mask around their patients was the reasonable accommodation.

Those who refuse COVID 19 vaccine due to personal or health reasons, if not offered wearing a mask as a reasonable accommodation, could claim illegal termination due to medical conditions.

No one asks for autoimmune disorders like M S or a cancer diagnosis. They shouldn’t be further penalized by being told they’re fired if reasonable accommodation (mask or job which doesn’t put them in close contact with patients) can be made.

I understand. But if your condition puts others at risk, that’s what you’d be fired for, not just because you’re sick. If a mask is just as good as the vaccine, then I’d agree with you. But is it? If two people are in a room, don’t both have to wear a mask for it to be effective?
