That would work out to about 17 to 21 years actually served in Federal Prison. It will run concurrently with his State sentence and he will be credited for time already served.
This actually benefits Chauvin. The sentence will be fairly close in length to his State sentence and he gets the benefit of serving his sentence in Federal prison, where he is likely to be a lot safer than if he was serving in State prison.
He could have gotten life in prison, but the Judge has indicated that he will not deviate from the 20 to 25 years spelled out in the plea agreement.
Can’t say that I am not unhappy about part of my OP being wrong.
They actually put him in the general population at Tucson and one of his fellow prisoners has kindly provided him with some new ventilation holes.
On the whole, Federal Prison USED to be safer than State prisons. But in recent years, staffing and management has gone to ■■■■ in the BoP, so that most Federal Prisons are becoming just as brutal as their State counterparts.
Chauvin might have actually been safer in solitary confinement in Minnesota.
In any event, assuming he survives, which is a variable as the BoP has released no info, he will probably be moved either next door to Tucson High or to another complex, likely Florence (High, not ADX).
BTW, they finally calculated a release date, though he may have to go back to Minnesota to serve the balance of his State time.
Assuming he survives to be released.
