No. For decades, coaches like Dave Stewart (when he was a pitching coach for the San Diego Padres) preached pitching quickly. All the pitch clock does is make that kind of philosophy an official policy.
What is going on now is pitchers are literally throwing beyond their capabilities to gain velocity, and that throwing absolutely too hard is what is causing arm injuries.
My suggesting ends this insane arms race, and puts movement over velocity, which should reduce injuries and extend careers. It also might help pitchers throw more complete games as well. Since you’re not trying to throw your arm off of your shoulder, starters will not tire as quickly in game and last longer.
Yeah, it’s controversial, but with pitching injuries at an all-time high, it’s a ban worth reconsidering.
