The CDC is including suicides and lawful homicides in that figure to skew the facts.
In the real world there were approximately 11,000 firearms related homicides in the US in 2016.

You can’t do anything to prevent suicides with gun control. Japan’s suicide rate is more than 5x that of the US and they have among the strictest gun control laws in the first and second worlds.
Of course, this is the same CDC that hid for over 20 years their own research showing in excess of 2 million lawful DGU’s occurring annually in the US so their bias is obvious.
