The article says the mess ended up in the neighbors yards, that is the bottom line. So maybe she put it there which is even worse. Why are folks making excuses for her? It doesn’t matter what the “root” of the incident was. That’s like saying the root of a bank robbery was needing money and that’s not a crime.

Then allow the neighber to do away the cats that come onto her yard.

You got a crush on this woman or something?

Why are you making it personal?

If the cats are problem for the neighbors then allow em to trap, shoot the cats if the local country, state isn’t going to do anything about hose stray cats.

She has refused time and time again to do anything about the situation, nothing. If she has 22 cats and takes care of them no problemo, but that’s not the case. Maybe the neighbors should even try to help her out, but its not their responsibility and they have clearly found the problem intolerable.

The county has taken the cats anyhow, maybe they will get her some professional help, that seems to be the real issue at work here.

Only the ones living in your head don’t care about laws. The non-made up libs quite often care about laws. Just as often as the non-made up cons.

She 79 years old. What good is professional help?

Why didn’t the country trapped that cats sooner, why did they allow those cats get out of hand to begin with? Why don’t the neighbors have the right to eliminate problem pests?

Old lady is going to do what “some” old ladies do.

Remarkable lack of sensitivity to property rights in this thread. How much cat ■■■■ and wildlife attraction is the appropriate amount to allow your neighbor to have deposited on your land? Had she responded to any of the many attempts to guide her into doing the right thing, there wouldn’t be a thread here.

People who didn’t want cat poop in their yard.

If she cared so much about the cats, she should have cleaned up after them.

And she had 22 cats in her HOUSE. Do you have any idea how much cat poop and stink there must have been in that house.

Perhaps a psychiatric facility would have been better than jail, though.

If they hadn’t been fed by this woman for 4 years…the situation would not have gotten out of hand.

Cats disappear all the time without a trace.

Oh so you have no problem if neighbors uses a 22 eliminate the pests?

It’s not like they’re dogs.

Professional help can consist of many things, like someone coming out to visit her and help set things right, or just be a friend or whatever. Something the neighbors could easily do but I think that ship has sailed.

The county can’t watch every friggin house to see how many pets are accumulating, stop trying to blame them for the situation.

We had the “crazy cat lady” in my neighborhood growing up. Her grass was two feet tall and whenever we walked by at least several cats would run bounding over the tall grass away from us noisy kids. Noisy because we thought it was great fun to see, but little did we know that a lonesome old lady was dying by degrees inside, never gave it a thought. She did eventually, and her body wasn’t found for weeks, a pretty typical story.

The neighbors right to eliminate pests isn’t even an issue here, it would not fix the problem. If it’s a suburban setting with homes close together it isn’t safe to go shooting things anyhow, though I wouldn’t have a problem with it a little further out for example. Cats multiply like rabbits, shoot one and three more take it’s place.

The problem is her. She could be the sweetest grandma in the world, but she is causing a significant health hazard for others and citations, fines, probation etc. is not helping fix the problem.

Shooting the few cats that stray onto neighboring properties won’t fix it either. She needs help and it doesn’t seem likely to be forthcoming. Locking her up for ten days is a terrible thing, but what choice do they have? SOMETHING has to be done to address the root problem, that being her collecting strays she is unable or unwilling to take proper care of.

My best friend, you might even call her my girlfriend does the same thing except she has the resources to take care of them. She collects a few of them every once in a while and gets them spayed and vaccinations. Two of them get to live indoors with her, the rest live under her house or in the barn or whatever. She’s a crazy cat lady, but she takes care of the damn things. Also, she is out in the country and the neighbors are quite a distance away.

That’s an interesting point. A lot of people would be up in arms over shooting dogs that were pests but not so much cats.

Why would this discussion make people uncomfortable? Would that have been your reasoning?

Speaking of that, if you watched the HBO “Chernobyl” show, the episode where they had to go shoot all the abandoned dogs and cats made me cry.

For me, it just seems why out of line to threaten old lady jail time for feeding stray cats…and the fact that “some” had defended it isn’t very liberal/libertarian now is it? Even those that scored in lower left-hand corner of that political compass thread shown signs of authoritarianism.

And thus was my point of this thread. I was hoping more of you would have replied but oh well, it is what it is.

Someone recommended that show to me just yesterday. I have purposely avoided it for reasons like that.

Her actions infringe on the rights of others.
