$3120 for lifesaving medicine we all may need

Or presymptomatically?

I acknowledge I dont know medicine. But I work in the defense business. We have production costs too. But the sell price contains much more than production costs even for product lines that have been in existence for decades.

You may be right that the companies make inordinate profit. I honestly dont know. But ā€œprofitā€ is not the difference between sell price and production cost.

On pharma profit margins

Pretty high compared to others assuming they captured all their costs correctly

We all know how defense contrating works. Iā€™m not sure the pharmaceuticals work the same way.

Trump has secured a deal for the US to acquire large quantities of remdesivir for the American people. You would expect an article headlining how the administration was putting the health of the America people foremost, wouldnā€™t you?
Well, no you wouldnā€™t, if you were familiar with our media.
We hear a rendition of ā€œexpertsā€ from foreign countries complaining that Trump is being too selfish for Americans by buying up too much of this drug.
Werenā€™t we just being told how much more other countries had this virus under control than the US? If and I say IF some justification were needed for this purchase that should suffice.
Okā€¦I know you hate ā€œif Obamaā€ statements, but if Obama had done what Trump did the same media would be celebrating how he was looking out for Americans. And if Trump had a chance to buy these drugs and had not done so, we would be told how he had the blood of Americans on his hands.

Physical cost of making it, not total cost of producing it.

What is the percentage? They ignore liability here.

Iā€™ve been saying this for a long time. And as such, there should be a ceiling on how much pharmaxeutical companies can charge.

Well thereā€™s a socialist idea.

Itā€™s one of the few socialist ideas I agree with. A rape is absolutely not the responsibility of the survivor, therefore, they shouldnā€™t be forced to pay.

Now, Iā€™ll have a freaking cow if tax-subsidized abortions are approved.

Thatā€™s what the government and hospitals are charged.

Itā€™s not what the patient is charged.

The ceiling on drug prices.

Such caps would cause hundreds of drugs to be pulled from the market and would dramatically limit future development.

Start with limiting liability and capping awards and you can accomplish exactly what we want without the negatives your solution would inspire.

That is how healthcare should be reformed. Pharmaceuticals and healthcare as a whole.

Liability has been the biggest driver of costs since the eighties.

Plaintiff attorneys have been buying and selling politicians since.

It was a big part of my personal platform when voting for candidates. Physicians literally carry so much more in liability insurance that is literally necessary. It sickens me how liability cases are advertised on TV. Ambulance chasers with simple TV commercials. doctors make mistakes, there should be some penalty if they committed mal practice. But the settlements they reach out of court are outrageousā€¦let alone court awarded settlements.

When my brother finally closed his practice that was almost exclusively prenatal care and delivering babies his annual MMP premiums were running in excess of 400k and heā€™d never even settled much less lost a case in court.

Pretty sad because it was his lifeā€™s passion.

This is why more and more physicians and especially specialists are tied to hospital clinics. They are covered under the umbrella of the hospital company. Sure they still cover MMP, but itā€™s a more reasonable amount.

Which continues driving up the cost of healthcare. Itā€™s just cost shifting.
