I believe he pre-brought some and other were contract options that the US could active.

My guess is “backup”. Vaccines A, B, and C are in the pipeline. Don’t put all your eggs in basket A for an exact amount and then have problems with vaccine A.

(NOTE: I doubt it was “Trump**” action at all. As I don’t think he would have bought any without being backed into a corner.)

I think that is a mixed bag. There are also a lot of people that have said they want the Pfizer or Moderna over J&J because of the higher efficacy numbers in the news. Not understanding that, get what you can early is the better path to herd immunity. If you get one version now, get it to get through the worst. Then next year get the other.

I would send them to Italy. They are facing new restrictions due to poor vaccine distribution.

Shocking to me Sleepy Joe missed such a good opportunity to poke Trump with his global good samaritan stick.

Italy is a country that has suspended the use of the AZ vaccine because of the guy in Sicily that died of a heart attack after his first dose.

Sigh. I just got my first shot of Moderna.

Haven’t turned into a flesh eating zombie yet…

And it’s stupid. The J&J vaccine isn’t a traditional vaccine either where you’re given an attenuated or dead virus to stimulate the immune system.

Mechanistically it works just like the mRNA vaccines…it codes for the spike protein to be produced, and then those spike proteins stimulate the immune response.

Instead of mRNA, it uses the spike protein DNA fragment delivered via an adenovirus vector.

So if you’re afraid of the gene-coding type vaccines, there’s no reason to trust the J&J vaccine over Moderna’s or Pfizer’s.

I’m assuming it means the vaccines can be released for sale. For foreign countries would pay for it.

It’s still foreign aid. We have the doses…we may need them. I assume Biden is hedging to make sure we have what we need going forward.

It’s not an easy decision, and that it’s something we have to think about in the first place was brought on by AZ’ screwups, not anything President Biden did.

Only ones making it seem like an easy decision are those looking for something to get on Biden for.
