We should remember that the McCarthy era black-lists (that everyone decries as an assault on freedom of speach) were not driven by governmental action, but were economically driven (“Don’t see movies that hire commies”).

It’s not a first amendment issue, but if access to expression is controlled by which side of a political fence one is on, our society and culture is headed in a bad direction.

That’s not doxxing, that’s just cancel culture.

They are not obligated to accept any ms for publication, but once there was a contract, whether they had a right to cancel or postpone depends upon the language of the contract. However, if this was a political decision rather than a business one, I’m not sure what S&S gains, particularly if the book had the potential to be a best-seller.

Hawley made himself bad business

With all due respect, one of the difficulties in the decision making process of publishers is that you don’t always know what was a bad buy until it’s on the shelves (though you may get a sense of it with pre-pub orders.) Hawley may have offended the publishers, and still turned out a best selling book, which would be to the publisher’s advantage.

Short term profit vs the 100 year publisher

Anyone can make some cash quick selling crack.

He knows it is a lie. But his base and Trump base will eat it up. He is now good to run in 2024. Very sly of him.

Cable companies are going to be pressured for carrying Fox, Newsmax and OAN.

Hawley’s biggest financial backer his whole career just publicly denounced him too. Boy he had a bad day yesterday.

Regnery will self-deal a half million copies; Hawley will have a best-seller(†),
and he’ll get to yammer on about a silent, persecuted minority.

Thanks. This new vernacular language is way over my head.

Doxxing is when someone’s personal information is posted knowing someone is going to screw with you.

That’s going to be interesting, because Fox’s main source of revenue is charging cable companies a ton of money for the honor of carrying their channel.

Or hoping they will.
