So he didn’t shake her hand, she destroys a piece of our history…is that what we want from our elected officials? Where does it end? If each person exacerbates or one ups the others actions, where does it end? For goodness sake, we’ve sat through an entire Presidency with our House being embroiled in one personal attack after another, at some point we should all be saying “ENOUGH”. I don’t care who started it, I just want it stopped. I don’t care that he didn’t shake her hand, I don’t care that she didn’t announce him properly, she destroyed a piece of MY history because she had to have the last word. ENOUGH.

The only way to put an end to this divisiveness is for the House to get control of it’s members and put an end to the lack of decorum, dignity and civility. As an former elected official, I had heated interactions but no one was ever allowed to be disrespectful. I’m shocked this is being allowed without consequence and encouraged. There has to be boundaries, and as long as the boundaries are crossed without consequence, if even basic civility isn’t being enforced, we all lose.

I’m sorry…there were many crossings of the line of civility long before Pelosi tore the document (not to mention the new scandal that she pre-tore it to make it more dramatic at the end and reduce the risk of failure).

That document becomes part of the record, it’s handed to the speaker who then puts it in the National Archives. It’s not a personal paper.

The White House is responsible for turning over a copy of the speech to the Archives, not the Speaker.

Nope. The official copy would be provided to the House of Representatives Clerk and a transcript recorded from the actual floor speech (since you know sometimes politicians go off script) would be entered into the record.

According to House Rule VII (as previously quoted and linked) the copy that Trump handed her is her personal copy.

I’ve used the term “House Clerk”, would you happen to know the official title of the individual responsible for receiving such communications from the White House to the House?

I’m assuming that the document is recorded in two or three places such as: White House official correspondence, House of Representatives Congressional Record, and National Archives (who probably have written and video copies).

It’ll be in the Congressional Record (they’ll probably get a written copy, as well a transcript from the floor), and the White House is required to provide a copy to the Archives as well, under the Presidential Records Act. The Archives may also keep a video.

There are probably more places it’ll end up.

So how would we enforce consequences on the President when he’s not civil?
