The idea was noble and there was some success early on… but that was wiped away as soon as the south got tired of having black people get power.
No. They don’t claim they are evil because of their past sins. Not at all. But the American left claims we are.

Slavery was responsible for a good portion of the wealth creation in this country for several decades.

I can only speak for myself.
I don’t think that the argument is that the US is evil but it does make it very uncomfortable to confront the parts of our history where we didn’t live up to our highest ideal.
That is what I see happening
