The problem with our airbases isn’t the airbases but the attitude about air power we’ve developed since WW2 … till finally we were using million dollar munitions to proverbially (if not literally) take out tents, even if really nice multi-thousand dollar antique tents that are also possibly family heirlooms they’re still tents.
I sometimes wonder how closely we truly coordinated with the Northern Alliance who had themselves spent years using the very same terrain to hold on against the Taliban? Would they have even helped eradicate the Taliban with that knowledge knowing it would mean foreigners would learn things the locals had long depended on to defend themselves?
And that brings us to a difference between the aftermath of the war on the Taliban and the war in Iraq after 9/11, and that is that it was to post-war Iraq that all those foreign Islamic death squads (eager to kill Iraqi civilians too) flowed in that so bedeviled our forces in Iraq (who at least got to kill lots of bad guys, were quite good at it, and at the time I observed it was mighty helpful of them to fight us where we were best able to kill them lots in a theatre where our civilian population and economy wasn’t in danger … rather than try to use their numbers to better infiltrate America where they could kill us lots) … without those death squads flowing into Afghanistan I don’t see the local “good guys” thinking it was in their interest to give up some of their more proprietary knowledge, if you will, to really see the Taliban ended.
That meant they may have felt they had to accept the continued existence of a known enemy — who were at least local boys — rather than risk our presence becoming a more comprehensive future threat.

It’s on all those Democrats and media agencies who knew Xiden was mentally failing during the primaries and yet pushed and protected his run for the presidency, sequestering him out of public scrutiny and assuring voters that he was more than capable of fronting for the USA. They lied to get him into office knowing they could rely on him to him do maximum damage to the US.

I have never in my life blamed George W Bush for 9/11.
Even when I was breathing in the smoke that blew over my neighborhood or was collecting the papers that fell on my roof.
I never blamed Bush for what happened that day.
