I’m not ok with any of it.
But all of the facts have to be laid out on the table. The CDC report should have went into more detail and broke down the age, location, and racial demographics.
You can’t ignore “gangbangers” when we are talking about adolescent gun violence. Considering they are responsible for a ton of it. And to be fair, are also the majority of the victims.

With all the National Media attention on Uvalde, this was predictable.
Why? Is the death of an 8 year old worse than a 12 year old? Is it OK for an adolescent of one demographic to be killed by a firearm? Or not as bad? Or even justified? The CDC gives all the demographic information. Let us know what it says.
He used a DDM V7. Does that fit “assault style” weapon?
You’re once again assuming I’m ok with any one being murdered for any reason.
I’m not ok with anyone being murdered. How many times do I need to say that?
Depends on how you define assault weapon.
It’s certainly not an “assault rifle” as it lacks selective fire capability.
Great. What should be done about it?
Beef up school security. Enforce existing firearms laws.
The big one is reforming mental health care in this country. Based on what’s been coming out about this kid, he needed serious mental help years ago.

What do you think the answer is?
The DDM4 V7 AR15 style firearm features M-LOK attachment technology with the Daniel Defense MFR 15.0 rail. Built around a Cold Hammer Forged, 16 inch barrel, the V7 has a DD improved Flash Suppressor to reduce flash signature. The mid-length gas system provides smooth and reliable cycling under any condition and reduces both perceived recoil and wear on moving parts. With the M-LOK attachment points that run along 7 positions and an uninterrupted 1913 Picatinny rail on top, the V7 has plenty of room for the sights, optics, and accessories the user may require. The independently ambi GRIP-N-RIP Charging Handle accommodates left- and right-handed shooters. This rifle also comes with the ergonomic Daniel Defense Buttstock and Pistol Grip.
Definitely not assault style. Just AR15 style.

No … Gunshot is the leading cause of death in those ages 1-19. In each of those instances, there was a person involved in initiating the gunshot.

What will beefing up school security do to help all those children/adolescents killed by guns outside of school?
Mental health is great. How will that relate to guns? Right now mental health assessments are typically voluntary and have to be performed before someone has access to or can use a firearm. Mandatory routine mental health exams for everyone? Just for gun buyers/owners or for everyone? Who does the assessment? How do they determine if you can or can’t have a gun? Why would someone with a mental illness willingly submit to an evaluation which could prevent then from owning a gun? Do those with mental illness have the insight to be assessed for mental illness?
The interesting thing is that logic makes sense to some.
So basically like any other modern semi-automatic modular rifle. Anything from the AR family to modern Kalashnikovs, Ruger Mini-14 Tacticals, SiG Virtus, or the Galil Ace family.
MLOK is for mounting accessories such as flashlights, laser targeting systems, side grips, etc. Picatinny rails are for mounting optical sights. And considering that many modular rifles lack iron sights today, you can mount flip up iron sights as well.
There’s nothing “exceptional” about that. Many hunting rifles and home defense shotguns come with MLOK brackets and Picatinny rails. My shotgun has a Picarinny rail for mounting optics.
But interestingly, the leading cause of death among children is not knifes, swords, belts, fists etc.
But the person is the only problem… ok buddy
Considering the inner city, where most of those lives are tragically lost, you need to solve the problems in the inner city poverty ridden communities first. Most of those shootings involve stolen firearms bought off of the black market. And very few are rifles. It’s mostly handguns.
And you’re not wrong on the second point. It’s extremely complicated and I don’t have the answer for that. It’s beyond me.

Technically the person doing the shooting is the problem.
Absent the person, a gun isn’t going to do anything.

Does your shotgun fire 5.56mm rounds and have a 32 round capacity which can be emptied in seconds? How about your hunting rifle?
The Hunting rifle is chambered in 30-06 (which is significantly more powerful and more lethal than .223) and has a detachable box magazine. The ones I use are ten rounders, but I can get 20 rounders if I wanted to. It’s semi automatic and with the adrenaline flowing, you can fire it just as fast as an AR-15 or Galil. Your shoulder isn’t going to feel great afterwards, but it can be done.
The shotgun is chambered in 12 gauge and has a very smooth pump action. You can empty the tube very fast with it. Not semi automatic fast, but it’s a shotgun so the damage to tissue is appalling when loaded with 00 buckshot. I’d much rather be shot by a .223 rifle; much higher chance of survival. It loads 8+1 shells, but I could get an extended tube magazine that increases the capacity to about 13+1 if I desired to.
That’s a comparison of .22LR, .223 (or 5.56 NATO), and 30-06. Which one do you think leaves the more appalling wounds and is more likely to drop a target the fastest.
