Hitler was personally extremely against the use of chemical weapons of any kind because of what he suffered and witnessed during WWI.
If anything I suspect the strategic and tactical arguments against it came from his staff rather than himself.
They actually did have gas masks for horses and goggles as well just like were used on the track.
